Big Horn National Forest, WY

We headed north and west out of Spearfish, SD to hit the hills and beat the heat for a few days.  On the way we stopped at Devil's Tower and took the loop trail around the base...
Pretty amazing geological and spiritual feature with lots of legends about it's origin and purpose including protection from giant bears...

We got ourselves up over 8,400' in Big Horn National Forest outside Sheridan, WY...

and found some wonderful forests, alpine meadows, and mountain streams in and around Tie Flume campground...

We had some camesite visitors...
 And some new birds...

 Lincoln's Sparrow...
Red Crossbill

Mountain Chickadee
The elevation did the trick on the temperature and we had to wear almost all the clothes we had to keep from freezing!  Amazing to think that 20 miles DOWN the road it was nearly 100 degrees while we were walking around in winter hats and long underwear sitting next to a fire!
The elevation was also noticable on the rides as we rode up to almost 10,000'...
On forest service roads that were like biking on an inch of baby powder...
A wonderful end to Phase II of our adventure....stay tuned for Phase III...
